GMI designs, sources, and manufactures wholesale socks and accessories for a customer base ranging from small independent stores to the most prestigious department stores in the country.

GMI commits to maintaining high levels of customer service, and we take pride in our reputation for treating everyone like family.

About The Role

We are seeking a part-time Packaging Production Coordinator who will report to the Vice President of Sourcing in the New York metropolitan area. This is a regular part-time, hourly role scheduled for 24 – 30 hours per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, working on site in our NYC office, with extra hours available during our peak production season. You will be the final check that our packaging, test reports, and Top of Production (TOP) samples all line up before product ships, and you will take key follow-up work off our Production Managers' plates.

About You

You are the person who notices when a UPC scans as “Navy” but the sock in your hand is charcoal. You like checking details, and you don't mind checking them twice. You write clear, direct emails, including to factory partners overseas, and you know when to fix something yourself and when to flag it for the team. You can manage several open items at once within a part-time schedule, and you keep good records so nothing slips between your workdays.

What You Will Do

Our Packaging Production Coordinator protects the quality of every item that reaches our customers. You will compare test reports, care labels, and packaging layouts to make sure they match, confirm that UPCs and lot numbers scan correctly, and approve TOP samples. You will also support our Production Managers by tracking test reports in the WIP (Work in Progress) report, maintaining shipping material samples, and preparing cost sheets and documents so orders keep moving.

Packaging Review and Approval

  • Review each test report to confirm it is valid and current, and that it lists the correct brands and styles.

  • Check packaging layouts against the test report and care labels so fiber content and wash instructions match.

  • Review the factory's digital packaging proof against the file we sent, confirming fonts, copy, and every requested detail carried over before final print.

  • Scan UPCs to confirm they read correctly and pull up the right style, color, and product information.

  • Confirm the Country of Origin (COO) has been updated on all packaging.

  • Confirm all required testing in the PO testing protocol has been completed and passed.

  • Approve TOP samples by confirming final packaging matches all testing and that UPCs and lot numbers scan correctly.

Test Reports and WIP Follow-Up

  • Receive test reports through the testing distribution list, file them, and begin review.

  • Flag any callouts or failures to the Production team, who lead corrections with the factory.

  • When a brand or style is listed incorrectly, email the factory with the correction and copy the distribution list so Production stays informed.

  • Monitor and follow up on the test report portion of the WIP report.

  • Time final checks so packaging and test results are reviewed together, avoiding duplicate work.

Production Team Support

  • Maintain approval samples of shipping materials, such as carton cuttings, polybags, and customer-specific UPCs.

  • Monitor the missing DIMS (carton dimensions) report to confirm dimensions meet our carton requirements and are submitted on time.

  • Create cost sheets so purchase orders can be issued.

  • Check documents so import folders can be entered.

  • Assist with inspection report approvals during peak season.

  • Manage sample bins and empty them once TOP samples are approved.

What You Will Need

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Experience in apparel, accessories, or consumer product production, packaging, or quality control.

  • Working knowledge of test reports, care labels, and UPC barcodes, or the ability to learn them quickly.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively within a part-time schedule.

  • Clear, professional written communication, including email with overseas factories.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and the entire Office 365 application.

  • Experience with PLM or ERP systems is a plus.

  • Comfortable working on site with a team that includes hybrid-remote colleagues.

  • Availability for additional hours during peak season.

Why You’ll Love Working at GMI

For more than 70 years, GMI has been a family-style company. We take care of our people, and they take care of our customers.

  • Set part-time schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 8 hours a day (24 hours a week) in our NYC office, with Mondays and Fridays off.

  • 5 days of paid time off: 40 hours of PTO that covers both vacation and sick time. It is available on January 1 (prorated in your first year), and you can use it right away.

  • Hands-on experience: see how product moves from factory testing to the retail shelf, working alongside an experienced Production team.

  • Growth: a pay review every year and support to keep learning.

  • Honest: we’re open and fair, and we keep our word.

  • People-First: we treat employees, customers, and partners with respect.
